Hello Ladies,
We are in the final stretch of getting the studio in Lutz open. The garage doors are gone and framed in, we are about to pain the Ready Room and Sewing Room then we will move on to the actual Studio room (not much to do there...just some cleaning, painting and a new floor cover. (see a couple of the early stage pix below)
The new studio will of course have mirrors and a suspended wood floor, a Ready Room with a small boutique and of course everything is air conditioned.
I am looking forward to getting the studio open.
With that said, class day/times are being set now. If you are returning to class in June and have a specific day/time that works with your schedule, drop me an email so I can take the requests into consideration when Elizabeth and I are setting up the new classes.
Be dancing with you soon!

And the Oscar goes to........
Hemi (aka The Kraken) for being the cutest bed buddy anybody can have. He is quite the little ham isn't he! And like Vlad, he totally knows what a camera is and will pose for it as long as you point it at him. |
Visions of Lutz 4th of July Parade 2017
Who knows if we will ever be able to march in this parade again...don't know if they will actually have it. No word yet from the organization team, so 2021 is looking pretty sketchy.

Aroma Therapy
Natural Pick-me-up
Drinking water is essential to good health. Our body is made up of 80% water and we DO need to replenish it from time to time. I do my best to drink the required amount each day, but did you ever have one of those days when water just wasn't exciting and you didn't want to drink it?
Enter Essential Oils...... On those days when I am not excited about drinking my water, I add a few drops of Orange, Tangerine or Lemon oil to my water bottle. It adds a refreshing taste to water and it also helps your body diuresis any stored water in your tissues that is not needed. (if you don't hydrate, you body thinks there is never going to be another drop of water cross your lips, so it conserves what it has)
(Disclaimer: the above statement is intended for the healthy individual and not for those with major diseases that prevent the body from processing fluids and nutrients).
So next time your Blah about drinking water...add a little refreshment with practically any citrus oils.
--------------
As many of you know, I love to use oils in my everyday life and up until recently I have used the dōTERRA brand exclusively (and have a store where you can buy the same oils I use-My.Doterra.com/Kandy13), but I have found another oil supplier that I like just as well and their commitment and prices are less strict than the doTerra brand. Their quality is the same, no stinting there and they are an advocate for organizations that that fight for victims and survivors of sexual exploitation.
Meet Simply Earth (SimplyEarth.com). They have a monthly box service or you can purchase oils individually without any commitment. Their boxes (and emails), contain lots of "recipes" that aid you in using your oils to make products like cleaning supplies, beauty products and even products for pets. And they have an oil education series that teaches you a lot about oils, how they are obtained/processed and used.
If you would like to check them out use my discount code MKANDYS50, to get $10.00 off your first box and an additional $10.00 of the next 4 boxes you order.
As always, Essential Oils are available from a variety of suppliers. I urge you to research the production/extraction methods before you purchase as I want your oils to work their best for you.

BEllyDance Combination Practice
So we are not in a formal classroom, or a zoom classroom...there is still no reason not to turn on some music and DANCE!.
It doesn't have to be BellyDance music...you have seen that in many of our shows...just be sure to take a few minutes to warm up and stretch out your muscles before you "get physical".
(here is a video warmup if you would like to use it- https://youtu.be/o6D3CDbSvBk).
Our combination for May is as follows:
Proper BellyDance Stance (Bend your knees, tuck your butt, lift your chest, relax your shoulders).
Piston shimmy while bringing your hands up to 1st closed position and back down again.
Basic Egyptian (starting on the R foot) x 2
Chest slide, right then left
Horizontal chest circle RFLB
Hip push RLRLRLRL (fast)....repeat.
There you go... a little BellyDance combination to get you back in the dance.

Famout Egyptian Dancers
who have Helped Shape BellyDance
If we were in classes, as you know, I like to give some history lessons regarding the origin of BellyDance and some of the famous "masters" in the art. So I decided to continue sharing thru our newsletter. Enjoy!
Fifi Abdou
Fifi Abdou was born Atiya Abdul Fattah Ibrahim in Cairo (April 26, 1953).
She had 11 siblings and her father was a policeman.
Her brother Abdelraheem Abdul Fattah Ibrahim was the one that encouraged her career of acting and dancing. She was 12 years old when she first joined a Baladi troupe, previously having worked as a model.
In the early 1970s her shows (which usually lasted 2hrs) became popular and it is rumored she made 10,000 per performance.. They featured, in addition to her dancing, circus tricks and even what is now known as "rapping"..
At her retirement in 2004, a Moroccan newspaper reported that she had over 5,000 costumes, the most expensive valued at 40,000. (and you though you had a lot of BellyDance costumes.)
Fifi walked the "moral" line with her dancing and was often times criticized by Egyptian authorities as "performing contrary to the tenents of Islam). She was charged with "depraved movements" once and sentenced to 3 months in jail.
She married 5 times and has 2 natural daughters and 1 adopted..
She is estimated to be one of the wealthiest women in Egypt and is known for her charitable donations to the poor of Cairo.

**On a side note---While Steve and I were in Egypt on our 2nd Honeymoon, I had the opportunity to meet and take a short class with FiFi (compliments of Mahmood Reda--aka Moody). Although she spoke limited English and I spoke no Egyptian (only a little Arabic), she was able to convey technique and correct issues with my execution that we both understood...hands and body movements are the universal language... it was a wonderful experience; however, the tea she served afterwards...way too strong for my tastes.
